The Face Behind Create the Space

I am the man behind Create the Space. My name is Denzel Herrera-Davis, born in Tampa, Florida and raised by Jamaican and Colombian parents.

I’m an empath, creator, soul coach, and consultant charged with un-telling the lies and creating space for purpose in achievement. I joined the battle in bringing creative wellness solutions to people like us and am currently building a platform called #2me4u for men of color, promoting self-reflection.

I’m the by-product of an overzealous, Jamaican entertainer of a father and an enterprising, Colombian artist of a mother. Growing up in a mixed-culture household of immigrants, I would step out into a world that required me being less of me to excel in life. Eventually I put down the things that fed my soul (art, music, and writing) for the things that "made sense" (medicine, engineering, and business). After 12 years of seeking validation in corp. spaces, I had mastered placing my worth in external valuation. Yet I had not developed a muscle for validating self after being held in a sort of cultural bondage that is normal for Islander men. Self-love was an foreign concept, rarely demonstrated.

I held being honest with people as one of my highest virtues for years when I finally realized - and painfully - that I hadn't kept it 100 with the person that was there for me since the start. My day one. Me.

After 35 years on earth this pattern left me with nagging feelings of being on the wrong path.

Why does “success” feel so dissatisfying?

What is success anyway?

Why do I feel so misunderstood?

Who am I and what do I want?

All of these questions led me to realize that my biggest struggle was intimacy with self. After nerding-out on my own field research I found that I’m not alone. Men of color, in particular, have traditionally lacked the societal support and associated resources for self-expression and vulnerability. So I set out to change that by founding a company that focuses on creating safe spaces for people of color to be both painfully and blissfully intimate with themselves.

YOUR TURN! I invite you to share your own story in self-discovery and join me as we Create The Space.
